Insight and Stratos altimeters are water resistant to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes. The water resistance is designed to survive water jumps and limited water exposure, not to swim long term with the altimeter. After exposure to any water always rinse the altimeter in fresh clean water, dry it completely, and do not charge it until the port is dry.
Water Resistance Rating #
| Rated depth | 1 meter |
| Rated duration | 30 minutes |
Both limits apply at once, and the figure is measured on a new, undamaged altimeter in still, fresh water. Water immersion that is deeper, longer, very hot water, or water under a pressure jet is outside the rating. An altimeter with damage to the case, glass, USB port, or static port vent (back of the device) will not meet the water resistance rating.
Care After a Water Landing #
- Take the altimeter off the mount and out of any wet gear.
- Rinse it under clean fresh water if it went into salt, brackish, chlorinated or pond water. A short rinse carries off the salt and grit that would otherwise sit against the seals and inside the charge port and damage the altimeter.
- Dry the outside with a soft cloth.
- Inspect the static port on the back of the altimeter to ensure no debris is blocking the small holes on the port.
- Leave it to air dry at room temperature for a minimum of 24 hours before performing another skydive.
- NEVER perform a skydive with a wet altimeter. Water can be forced through the gaskets and into the case due to changing air pressure.
Caution
Do not plug in a wet altimeter. Charging through a damp USB-C port corrodes the contacts and can damage the altimeter, and that damage is not a manufacturing defect. Wait until the port is dry.
Do not use a heat gun, a hair dryer or an oven to speed the drying up. This can damage the altimeter, including damaging the gaskets that provide water ingress protection.
If the altimeter shows moisture under the lens, loses a button, or behaves oddly once it has dried, stop jumping it and contact support@deepandsteep.io.
