Stratos Firmware Update

Updating the firmware on your Stratos involves copying a firmware file from your computer. Follow the steps below to complete the firmware update process.

What you’ll need

  • Your Stratos altimeter
  • A USB-C cable
  • A computer
  • The latest firmware file (.UF2), downloaded to your computer

To check your firmware version, press the center button while on the clock screen, then navigate to System → Firmware. If your Stratos does not have this menu, you have older firmware — the section below explains how to find the version on those units.

Tip

After you enter firmware update mode, the Stratos screen will go blank. To exit firmware update mode, perform a forced restart. Your altimeter will restart without the update and work as normal.

Caution

The firmware update clears the summary values shown on the logbook screen:

  • Total freefall time
  • Total canopy time
  • Recent Jumps list

Your logbook itself is not erased. It stays on the altimeter and can still be transferred to the Deep and Steep app, or read from the logbook.csv file in USB mode.

Current firmware version 1.03 and higher #

  1. Ensure your Stratos is not connected to the computer. Unplug your Stratos before entering firmware update mode.
  2. From the clock screen, press the center button to open the menu. Navigate to System → Firmware
  3. Follow the directions on screen to enter firmware update mode
  4. The display on your Stratos will go blank. This is normal.
  5. Connect your device to the computer using a USB cable.
  6. Open your computer’s file manager and look for a new connected device
  7. Copy the firmware file to this USB drive. The firmware file is the .UF2 file you downloaded from the checklist above.
  8. After the file copy completes, your Stratos will restart itself, showing the normal altimeter startup process and then the clock screen. The file copy and update process only takes a couple of seconds.

Current firmware version 1.02 and prior #

  1. Ensure your Stratos is not connected to the computer. Unplug your Stratos before entering firmware update mode.
  2. Record your total jump #. The firmware upgrade will reset this value to 0 and it will need to be configured again after the update.
  3. From the clock screen, press the center button to open the menu. Navigate to System Info
  4. Press the up button to view the firmware screen
  5. Follow the directions on screen to enter firmware update mode
  6. Connect your device to the computer using a USB cable
  7. Open your operating system’s file manager and look for a new USB drive
  8. Copy the firmware file to this USB drive (it is the .UF2 you downloaded as the first step)
  9. The device will automatically update the firmware and restart itself, showing the normal altimeter startup process and then the clock screen (this process only takes a couple of seconds)
