Wireless Connectivity and Saved Devices

1 min read

The Insight and Stratos GPS altimeters have wireless connectivity built in. From the main Connect screen it is possible to add and save peripheral devices (such as HUD glasses or the Soundlink audible altimeter). Saving a connected device works very similarly to connecting to headphones or a speaker on your smartphone.

Up to 4 connect devices can be saved for easy access. However only the altimeter can only maintain an active wireless connection to 1 device at a time. See the Auto Connect section below to learn how to configure the altimeter to automatically connect when it detects that it is ascending in the aircraft.

Add a New Connect Device #

To add a new connect device, switch to the “Connect” screen and press the center button to open the menu. Select an empty device row (empty rows will display “-add device-“), and press the center button.

Ensure your peripheral device (such as the Engo HUD glasses or Soundlink audible) is powered on and ready to connect. From the menu select Search for the specific device you want to connect to. For instance select “Search HUD” to see a list of currently available HUD glasses.

After the search has completed, select the name of the device from the search list and press the center button. This will attempt to connect to the device. If the connection is successful this device is saved by name for easy connection on your next skydive.

From the Connect screen menu, up to 4 saved devices are listed by name. Select any device to open the device specific menu. This menu contains functionality for connect, disconnect, and remove a saved device.

Connect & Disconnect Functionality #

Select “Connect” (or “Disconnect”) from the menu to force a manual connection or to disconnect the device. A disconnected device will remain saved for future use.

Remove a Saved Connect Device #

Select “Remove” from the menu to remove the device from the saved devices list. This also disconnects the device if a connection was active.

Configure the Auto Connect Feature #

From the main Connect menu, navigate to “Auto: ” and press the center button to cycle through available saved devices. The device name shown here is searched for during the aircraft ride and the altimeter will attempt to automatically connect to the device.

Ensure the HUD glasses or other connect device is powered on for the automatic connection.

After landing from the skydive the altimeter will disconnect from the peripheral device in order to save battery while on the ground.
