Training Aides and Lockdown Mode

Table of Contents

The Insight and Stratos altimeters include two features that can be helpful when working with students during their progression: Lockdown Mode and Freefall Demo.

From the clock screen, press the center button to open the menu. Navigate to Training->Lockdown or Training->Freefall Demo.

Lockdown Mode #

The lockdown mode is used to disable the buttons on the altimeter and force the altitude screen to display at all times. This mode also forces the “standard” altitude display, with large numbers and none of the extra GPS information (ground speed, distance to LZ, etc..) that may distract a student during their first skydives.

As an instructor or coach, first configure the altimeter (display units, etc…) and then enter lockdown mode. Now your student will not be able to change any settings or get distracted by messing around with the menus.

GPS tracks will still automatically be recorded for each skydive while lockdown mode is enabled, for use after the jump to debrief freefall and canopy flight.

Freefall Demo #

Choose Freefall Demo to run a mock skydive, starting at 13,000 feet and ending at 4,000 feet. The mock skydive descent rate is set to a “standard” belly to earth freefall speed of roughly 5.5 seconds per 1,000 feet of descent.

Use this freefall demo to train students on the ground for altitude checks and to get them used to the general time of a freefall skydive.

Press the center button at any time to exit the freefall demo early.
